Gripped By Grief

It was a heart-rending scene of almost unendurable anguish. As his wife cried out in pain, the father of a murdered child thanked the public for helping authorities find her body. Five-year-old Naoimi Almeida was found dead Wednesday, after a suspect led police to her body. “Just before she went to bed she said ‘I love you and I’ll see you in the morning,” “her father Al recalled, his voice choking. He remembered the greetings he received when he got home from work. “She’d come out running yelling ‘daddy, daddy,’ ” he sobbed. “And I’ll never see that again.”

Almeida had words of gratitude for the family of suspect Thomas Hurst. “I want to thank you for your assistance in allowing police to find our little girl.” Naoimi’s mother, Shanua Turner, didn’t speak during the brief appearance, but collapsed sobbing into arms of family members.

Hurst is facing one count of first-degree murder, and more charges could be laid after Labour Day.
